Keto Italian Beef With Cabbage Noodles

1977 ratings

This meal is a gut-filling crowd pleaser! The thinly sliced cabbage acts like “noodles” in this hearty Italian meat sauce. It requires only a little prep work, and is finished within about 30 minutes so there’s no need to slave over the stove for hours! The recipe yields 8 servings which may sound like a lot, but this dish is great to meal prep to keep in the fridge and freezer for future meals!

Recipe Steps

30 min

  • Step 1

Heat olive oil in a large pan or pot over medium heat. Once hot, add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula or spoon.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Add the garlic, salt, italian seasoning and basil to the meat. Once it is about halfway to being fully cooked, add in the jar of Rao’s sauce. Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to medium-low.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Thinly slice the cabbage, add it to the beef, and toss with a pair of tongs. Once the cabbage is somewhat coated in the tomato and beef mixture, reduce the heat to medium-low and mostly cover the pan with a lid, just leaving a small crack for heat to escape and reduce. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 7-10 minutes, or until the cabbage softens. Remove the lid from the pan and allow to cook for a few more minutes to evaporate any liquid that was released from the cabbage. Top with chopped basil and serve!

I made mine with 1 lb italian sausage and it was really good. It should be 4 servings to be honest.

I added some Pancetta, as a base, then. Ground beef , then onion, garlic, chile fakes to get some heat , then proceeded the same. Loved the dish

I was still hungry after having one serving. Had another and still hungry. Going to sleep now because I’m hungry. It’s too light so won’t make it again. Most probably could eat 400g of the meat and cabbage in one go.

I 1/2 the meat and keep the rest the same, make it into 4 servings which is about 1/4 lb of meat per serving, which holds me over just fine. I also sleep better without the dairy it seems.

Can you boil the meat in water and drain of the fat

Why would you want to drain off the fat? Fat is good for you.

Nothing great about this dish, it's not exciting but if you add some mozzarella cheese on top it's filling and quite honestly I'll probably make it again. Dinner doesn't always have to be exciting and it was great for leftovers the next day

This is really good but the nutritional profile didn’t match what I got when I entered the ingredients separately. It said around 14g of carbs, not nine. If you’re doing advanced Keto, this may be too high for you.

Loved this recipe, easy to make, but found the cabbage takes way too long to cook so I par boiled it then added it to the sauce. Have made it twice now.

Great recipe but for me the serving size seemed to be off. Did anyone have that problem? I weighted/measured everything. I will definitely make this dish again.

I thought it was off too. I weighed 280g and thought that was a pretty big portion.

Devine. Slightly different ingredients as I live in Australia and couldn’t get Rao’s sauce. Used an Arrabiata sauce instead. Will definitely be making this one again!!!!

Depends where you are. Rao's is available at Kroger stores or their affiliates. You can probably get it on Amazon or Whole Foods. But you can make your own with fresh Roma tomatoes or use any good quality sugar free marinara sauce.

Made this for me and a friend and we both loved it. I was in a rush so I used a bad of store bought cabbage. Used the whole bag. Think I’ll use a head of cabbage next time to make the noodles. I tasted it and felt it needed more Italian seasoning so I added another tsp and let it cook some more..This would be a great recipe for putting servings in the freezer for a” no cooking for me” day. I’ll make this again!

I’m curious how well the cabbage would be after thawing and reheating.
